LRC Primary Activities

1. Research and Study

Since its establishment in 1988, LRC has accomplished research on various topics of cultural heritage and Buddhism of Nepal Mandala. Out of more than 40 studies, some significant ones include:

  • A Study on Bali Offering
  • Research on Yashodhara Mahavihar Sangha
  • A Study on Vasundhara Devi
  • A Study on the Importance of Torana in Buddhist Art
  • A Survey of Opinions of Vajracharyas on Ritual Practices
  • A Survey of Opinions of Lay Disciples on Ritual Practices
  • A Study on Viharas of Bhaktapur
2. Translation and Publication

Translations

LRC translates Sanskrit Buddhist scriptures into vernacular languages. Ten important Buddhist scriptures including Sadhanamala, Sikshya-samuccaya, and Nispanna-yogavali have been translated.

3. Conferences and Seminars

LRC has conducted around 30 local seminars and 4 international conferences on Nepal Mandala cultural heritage with participation of scholars worldwide.

4. Information Centre

Following recommendations from the 1999 international conference, LRC is building a digital archive of Nepal Mandala heritage and aims to become a major information hub for scholars and locals alike.

5. Preaching and Training Programme

LRC organizes preaching and training programmes to encourage youth participation in research. It also conducts Research Methodology training annually in Kathmandu Valley.

6. Essay Competition

Since 1989, LRC has conducted essay competitions during Buddha Jayanti on topics such as Dana, Sila, Ksanti, Virya, Dhyana, Prajna, Maitri, Karuna, Mudita, Upeksha, Pratitya Samutpad, Bodhicitta, Saptatrimsat Bodhipakshika Dharma and Pancha Buddha and Five Wisdoms. Winning essays are published in “Paleswan”.
